THE MOST UNPLEASANT JOURNEY.....WHAT IF

It's hard to believe that just a week ago, these boxes were packed.  20 boxes-8000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses that have been donated, sorted and prepared by hundreds of compassionate individuals.  For a year I saw just a pair of eyeglasses in a ziplock bag, now those same eyeglasses will bring opportunities and joy to so many here in Costa Rica.  It is why the biggest stress for us on a project is the assurance that these eyeglasses will NOT be confiscated at Customs.  Just as much effort goes into getting this "assurance" as in the preparation of the eyeglasses.  The whole travel is full of this uncertainty at customs, this WHAT If....
Checkin in at the airport is always a fun ordeal for the agents and for us

After 6 hours in Dallas we finally landed in San Jose with much trepidation .  We certainly had all the proper documents but the name of this game is sometimes...."So What"
It was FANTASTIC! We didn't need a passport check, no scanners and no inspections...just had the red carpet to go right on in.  Apparently everyone in Customs had been aware of our arrival and situation for the last month.

Happy to Say that ALL your donations and efforts did not
and will not go to waste.

  1. This was as close to a miracle that one can get. Three months of daily work to coordinate all the permissions... And during a nationwide strike. Don't doubt that I was outside the door of the airport with all the paperwork clutched in my hands ready room personally rush in their and carryall those boxes out personally. There were many costa rican officials who, through their trust in this mission, were flexible and incredibly supportive during this time. This is what due diligence combined with faith can accomplish.
