Our First TWECS trip togetner

In La Carpio district of San Jose CR,  the people lined up for our clinic at 8 AM anxiously waiting to see our team with the hope of better vision. We helped with registration, distance visual acuities, and finally dispensing of the glasses.
Not speaking the language can certainly be a challenge but we  had a wonderful Spanish interpreter, Valantina, an 11 year old gem! She made our job so much easier and definitely less painful to the patients who struggled not only to understand us but to put up with our horrible Spanish pronunciation.  Besides translating, Valentina spoiled us with kind gestures of water and other treats.
Our sad moment of the day came when we met a 17 year old girl carrying an orphaned
baby. How so young she is to have that responsibility.
Despite the heat during the day , with no fans, we are rewarded with the  hugs and  thank yous from the  happy people  leaving the clinic with better vision.Doreen Erb and Wendy Trigg, BC
